Dream Musings [X-Posted From Tumblr]

Recently, I had a dream where I was talking to Cleopatra VII and Marc Antony. I don’t know about what, I just know that I was talking to them.

I think I’m going to make an altar for Cleopatra VII. It sounds rather silly, but I’ve always prayed to her, even as a kid. Look, I was one weird as fuck kid who saw nothing wrong with praying to dead royalty for help because she’s my idol. XD

Even now, sometimes I’ll ask Cleopatra for help or even advice. She’s been my idol since I was little and I’m very protective of her. I think a lot of it is due to the fact that she’s a heroine for all of us who are of Mediterranean descent (Arabic, Italian, Greek, etc) and who don’t always fit in with today’s beauty standards.

Cleopatra VII was mostly Macedonian Greek and judging by her coin portraits, she probably didn’t look that much different from me or other women of Mediterranean descent-olive skin, wavy/curly hair, strong nose, etc. She’s our heroine, y’know? Silly as it sounds, whenever my self-esteem took a hit as a teen because of my very Roman nose, it made me feel better knowing that Cleopatra VII had the exact same nose and still kicked ass and took names. I wouldn’t be surprised if there were others of Mediterranean descent who feel the same way about Cleopatra too.

Funnily enough, “The Memoirs of Cleopatra”is part of what pushed me towards Kemeticism and my belly dance stage name Cleopatra Amaris is my homage to Cleopatra VII and her daughter, Cleopatra Selene II—Amaris is thought to mean Child of the Moon. I felt funny naming myself after her daughter, so I went for a similar name as a loving homage to my two favorite Ptolemaic Queens. 🙂

So yea. This is an idea I’ve been kicking around in my head for quite some time, but I think that dream was their way of saying “get a move on it!” haha.

TL;DR: I have Cleopatra VII feels, damnit. XD

So, does anyone else work with dead royals/Pharaohs or am I the only weirdo who does this?

I set up my altar to her the other day too. It’s bare bones, but we’ll get there!
